Mass Spectrometry Unit

Mass Spectrometry

The Mass Spectrometry Unit consists of one Sciex 5500 QTRAP triple quadrupole tandem mass spectrometer, and one Agilent high resolution quadrupole-time of flight tandem mass spectrometer (QTOF). Both systems are connected to Agilent 1290 Ultra High Pressure Liquid Chromatographs.

These two instruments are used for quantification and identification of vitamins, amino acids, nucleic acids, lipids, fatty acids, retinoids, carotenoids, antioxidants, peptides, and proteins from food and human body tissues. The QTOF is also being used for lipidomics, metabolomics and proteomics. Data generated by these instruments are the primary outcomes in many human nutrition, aging and exercise studies.
