Biography

Dr. Alexander Panda is a Scientist II on the Nutritional Immunology Team at the HNRCA. His research interests involve the age-associated defects of pattern recognition receptors and the role of zinc as a potential nutritional intervention to combat pneumonias in nursing home patients. He is one of the principal investigators for the Zinc intervention in prevention of pneumonia in elderly (ZIPP) study funded by the National Blood Heart and Lung Institute (NHLBI).



Dr. Panda’s research involving toll-like receptor 1 earned him the Paul B. Beeson Clinical Scientist Development Award in Aging, presented by NIA/NIH and the American Federation for Aging Research. He is an assistant professor both at Tufts Medical Center in the Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Division and at Tufts Clinical and Translational Science Institute. He is board certified in Infectious diseases, Pulmonary Medicine and Critical Care Medicine. Dr. Panda received his MD from Medical Faculty of the Alexander von Humboldt University in Berlin, Germany; PhD from Yale Graduate School of Arts & Sciences; and MPH from The Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health.
