Biography
Lisa Ceglia, MD MS is Scientist II on the Bone Metabolism Team and Medical Director of the Metabolic Research Unit at the HNRCA. She is also Assistant Professor of Medicine at Tufts University School of Medicine and Director of the Metabolic Bone Diseases Clinic at Tufts Medical Center. Dr. Ceglia’s research focuses on the effects of dietary and hormonal factors on the aging musculoskeletal system. She has studied the effects of vitamin D3 supplementation on human skeletal muscle morphology in older adults with low vitamin D status as well as the effects of combined high protein and potassium bicarbonate supplementation on intermediate markers of bone and muscle metabolism. Dr. Ceglia’s research includes work on the impact of vitamin D3 in cardiometabolic outcomes as well. Dr. Ceglia was a former Dr. Gerald J. and Dorothy R. Friedman Fellow in Diabetes and Metabolism from 2004-2006, a former recipient of a T32 Nutrition Training Grant from 2007-2009, a former recipient of the Research Career Development Core Award from the Boston Claude Pepper Older Americans Independence Center from 2008-2010, and a former recipient of a KL2 at the Tufts CTSI from 2009-2011. In 2018, Dr. Ceglia was awarded NIH funding to conduct a clinical trial on whether protein intake with or without alkali supplementation enhances muscle mass and strength in older sedentary adults.
