Biography

Naglaa Hani El-Abbadi, PhD, is a Scientist III in the Precision Nutrition & Healthy Aging directive at the HNRCA. Her general research focus is on better understanding the role of nutrition and dietary intake in healthy aging, and the impacts of food insecurity and malnutrition on health outcomes. 

Dr. El-Abbadi has also worked extensively on the nutritional and environmental profiling of foods and dietary patterns, with the aim of enhancing diet quality while promoting sustainability and planetary health. Her current research is on the dietary needs versus drivers of dietary choices that occur with advancing age, as well as impacts from and on food systems, particularly in the context of a changing environment. She collaborates on projects on how dietary guidance may be personalized through understanding of individual/local health determinants, including lifestyle behaviors, social influences, and environmental exposures.

Dr. El-Abbadi maintains an adjunct lecturer role at the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts University. She is a member of the American Society of Nutrition and Planetary Health Alliance.
