Biography

Dr. Xiang-Dong Wang is a Senior Scientist in the Metabolism & Basic Biology of Aging directive at the HNRCA. He is an internationally renowned research scientist on the biochemical and molecular mechanisms underlying the anti-cancer benefits of carotenoids and vitamin A.

Dr. Wang's research includes studying how dietary factors (e.g., high fat/sugar/alcohol diet), environmental factors (e.g., cigarette smoking, carcinogen exposure), and carotenoid intervention, modify molecular and genetic pathways which alter the development of cancer and other chronic diseases. His current research focuses on studying molecular targets of bioactive components of tomato (lycopene and phytoene) against aging-related fatty liver and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

Dr. Wang has published more than 150 peer-reviewed original research manuscripts, reviews, and book chapters. he has received numerous awards in recognition of his research, including the ELR Stokstat Award, Mary Swartz Rose Senior Investigator Award and Distinguished Fellow Award from the American Society of Nutrition. Dr. Wang is a professor in the Biochemical and Molecular Nutrition Program at the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts University.
