Purpose The goal of ENGAGE-B is to better understand how to preserve brain health, mobility, and ultimately the independence of older adults.
Target Population If you are aged between 60-89 years and are experiencing some difficulty with your memory or everyday mobility tasks such as walking or climbing stairs, then you may be eligible to participate.
Major Exclusions Any serious medical condition limiting your ability to safely participate in physical activity, such as uncontrolled cardiovascular disease or insulin-dependent diabetes.
Length of Study 6 months
Number of visits If eligible, you will be randomly assigned to either a physical activity group or a healthy aging education group for 6 months. If you are in the physical activity class, you will attend a supervised state-of-the-art exercise class twice a week. If you are in the healthy aging education group, you will attend fascinating bimonthly lectures and learn about topics such as nutrition for brain health and many more topics of relevance to older adults.
All study activities take place at the Holland Street Senior Center in Davis Square, Somerville. Transportation can be provided.
You may receive up to $100 for completion of study assessments.
