Study #2880: Effect of almonds and a snack mix on cognition
Purpose To evaluate the effect of foods on cognitive function
Target Population Healthy men and women, 50 – 75 years
Major Exclusions •Nut or coconut allergies •BMI <25 or >35 kg/m2 •<50 years, >75 years •Fish oil, omega 3 fatty acids, choline, or lutein supplementation within the past 2 months •Fat malabsorption •Alcohol consumption of more than 2 drinks per day or 14 drinks per week •Smoking or use of nicotine patches or gum within the last 6 months •Diabetes
Length of Study
Number of Visits 11 (1 screening visit, 3 visits for pre-study day meals, 4 visits for study food pick-up, 3 visits for study measures)
Can I work? Yes
Study diet 1.5 or 3 ounces of almonds/day or 3 ounces of a snack mix/day
Stipend $25 for one screening visits
$675 if you qualify and complete the study.

Total length of the study including resident stays and nonresident visits.
This does not mean you will be testing the entire time.
The length of time volunteers are required to stay overnight at the HNRCA. Residents have their own private room, bathroom, television, VCR, and phone during their stay.
The amount of reimbursement for travel and inconvenience.

Total number of nonresident visits.
Indicates meals which will be provided by the HNRCA
